Uncommitted U

About Uncommitted U

Three dads who played it,
coached it, and paid for it

Uncommitted University was established in 2006 to level the field for the late bloomer and the family without a recruiting budget. We are not a marketing company that discovered baseball. We are baseball people who got tired of what recruiting costs.

Founder and majority owner

Wayne Keeton

Wayne is the founder of Uncommitted University and the Director of Operations for the Tacoma Baseball Club.

He has coached for over 12 years and worked recruiting in Western Washington for more than 20, from grassroots youth development to managing the TBC Premier 18U travel team.

A former All-League pitcher and infielder at Henry Foss High School, Wayne has built travel rosters from the ground up. He knows what college coaches actually look for, because they call him about his players.

He founded UU in October 2006, frustrated by what traditional recruiting platforms charge families for a login and a prayer.

The proof is at home. His son Jackson was recruited in his junior year of high school, played the 2025-26 season in San Diego, and plays at Shoreline Community College this year. When he is not on a field, Jackson is a major part of UU’s day-to-day operations, and part of its ownership.

  • 12+ years coaching, youth through 18U Premier
  • 20+ years of recruiting on the coach’s side of the table
  • Runs operations for a real travel program today, not in a past life
  • Jackson runs UU day to day while playing college ball, so the advice here is tested against live recruiting

The other two thirds

Mark and Jason

Both took the junior college road themselves. Both raised children who played college sports. That is exactly the experience UU exists to pass on.

Mark Miller of Uncommitted University with his sons

Mark Miller

Co-Founder

Mark played at all three levels the hard way: JUCO ball at Green River Community College in Washington, NCAA Division II at Concordia College in New York, and his senior season in Division I at the University of Northern Iowa.

  • Played JUCO, D2 and D1, three transfers, zero shortcuts
  • Raised two college athletes: baseball at Purdue Fort Wayne, golf at Akron
  • His wife competed in D1 track, so the dinner-table film review is real
  • Based in the Atlanta area
Jason Walker of Uncommitted University with his family

Jason Walker

Co-Founder

Jason was a scrappy, undersized shortstop who proved himself the JUCO way at Lon Morris College in Texas, then captained NCAA Division II Urbana University and hit .312 his senior year.

  • JUCO-to-D2 path himself, team captain both D2 seasons
  • Raised two college athletes: baseball at Furman, softball at Wright State
  • His wife played D1 softball, and still breaks down swings at the kitchen table
  • Based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area

Why listen to us

We have sat in every seat

Player, coach, and parent. Between the three of us, that is every chair at the recruiting table.

  • As players: Mark, Jason and Jackson have worn JUCO, D2 and D1 uniforms, partial scholarships and grit, not five-star treatment
  • As a player right now: Jackson is on a college roster this season, so our advice gets tested against live recruiting
  • As a coach: Wayne has spent 12+ years on the side of the table that reads the emails and takes the calls
  • As parents: five children recruited into college baseball, softball and golf, on five different paths
  • As customers: we paid the recruiting-industry prices before we built the alternative

Sourcing policy

How our guidance is sourced

Recruiting rules change every year, and most of what is published online is stale. Here is how we keep ours straight.

  • Primary sources first. Eligibility and rules content quotes the NCAA Eligibility Center, NCAA.org announcements, and the NAIA and NJCAA’s own published rules, and links to them so you can read the original.
  • Analysis is labeled as analysis. Where a governing body has published no sport-specific guidance, we say so in the article and mark the reading as ours, every time.
  • Dated and re-checked. Guides carry an updated date and get re-checked against that year’s published rules, because a 2025 answer can be wrong in 2026.
  • Corrections are welcome. Spot something stale? Tell us through the contact page and we will check it against the source and fix it.
