Power 4 Baseball: All 63 Schools, Real Odds, How to Get In

By | September 21, 2026 · Updated September 20, 2026

Updated September 2026. Membership and 2026 records checked against the conference standings on theacc.com, big12sports.com, bigten.org and secsports.com, and the NCAA’s 2026 Division I season records. Roster and scholarship rules from the NCAA’s June 2025 roster limit adoption.

You typed “Power 4 baseball schools” into Google and got football lists. Those lists carry SMU, Syracuse, Colorado, Iowa State and Wisconsin, and not one of the five has a baseball team. Nobody told you how many Power 4 baseball programs there really are, what a roster spot at one of them looks like after the 2025 rule changes, or what your actual odds are.

This page does all of that. It is the only complete list of Power 4 baseball schools on the web, sorted by conference, with 2026 records, the new roster and scholarship rules, honest odds, and a direct path to every coaching staff.

Here is what you get, in order:

  • What Power 4 means in baseball, and why the football lists are wrong
  • The four conferences, side by side
  • All 63 Power 4 baseball schools, by conference, with 2026 results
  • Roster limits and scholarships after the House settlement
  • The 2026 season in one table: Omaha, the draft, the bids
  • The real odds, and what the numbers say
  • How to get recruited by a Power 4 program, honestly
  • Whether Power 4 is the only goal worth having

Key takeaways

  • Power 4 is a football term for the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and SEC. In baseball, 63 of their 68 football members field a team. Power 5 is the old name from before the Pac-12 broke up in 2024.
  • Since July 1, 2025, every Power 4 baseball roster is capped at 34 players, and every one of those 34 can be on a full scholarship. The old limit was 11.7 scholarships spread across 35 or more players.
  • Power 4 programs took 31 of the 64 spots in the 2026 NCAA tournament. Oklahoma of the SEC won the College World Series, and North Carolina of the ACC was the runner-up.
  • Sixty-three programs times 34 roster spots is about 2,100 players in the whole tier. Most of them were signed before the start of their senior year or came through the transfer portal.
  • Every school below is in the coach directory. The Division I filter holds all 63, and a conference name in the search box narrows it to one league.

If you are still working out where you fit, start with what college baseball level am I, then come back here. Power 4 is the top of the pyramid, and it is the level families aim at without knowing what it costs to get there.

What Power 4 baseball means

Power 4 is not a baseball classification. The NCAA sorts baseball into Division I, II and III, and every Power 4 program is simply a Division I program. The label comes from football, where the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and SEC hold the biggest television contracts and, since 2024, the College Football Playoff’s automatic bids.

The term used to be Power 5. The Pac-12 was the fifth conference until its members left for the Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC ahead of the 2024-25 year. You will still hear “Power 5” from coaches and parents, and in baseball it means the same 63 schools plus the two Pac-12 holdovers, Oregon State and Washington State, who now play outside the four conferences.

In baseball the label matters for one reason: money. Power 4 athletic departments carry the largest budgets in college sports, and after the House settlement they are the schools most able to fund 34 full scholarships, charter travel, and revenue sharing. A Power 4 baseball roster is the best-funded roster in the amateur game.

Five Power 4 football members do not sponsor baseball: SMU and Syracuse in the ACC, Colorado and Iowa State in the Big 12, and Wisconsin in the Big Ten. Any list that includes them is a football list with the sport changed in the headline.

The four conferences, side by side

People search “power 4 baseball conferences” almost as often as they search for the schools, so here is the straight comparison for 2026.

Conference Baseball schools Football members without baseball 2026 NCAA tournament bids 2026 regular season champion
ACC 16 SMU, Syracuse 9 Georgia Tech
Big 12 14 Colorado, Iowa State 6 Kansas
Big Ten 17 Wisconsin 4 UCLA
SEC 16 None 12 Georgia

The SEC is the deepest league in the sport, and 2026 proved it again. Twelve of its 16 teams made the NCAA tournament, Oklahoma won the national title, and the league’s last-place team, Missouri, still played 55 games. The ACC is the second tier of the top tier, with nine bids and the national runner-up.

The Big Ten is the outlier. It grew to 17 baseball schools by adding UCLA, USC, Oregon and Washington from the Pac-12, and those four west coast programs are now the class of the league. UCLA went 28-2 in conference play and produced the first pick in the 2026 draft. The old Big Ten core, from Indiana to Penn State, finished with losing records.

The Big 12 sits between. Kansas and West Virginia each won 45 or more games, and the league sent six teams to the tournament. It is also the league with the most turnover, having absorbed Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, BYU, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston in two years.

Read the bottom of each table as carefully as the top. LSU went 30-28 and missed the tournament one year after being a national power. Arizona lost 34 games and Penn State lost 35.

A Power 4 roster spot is not the same thing as a Power 4 season, and a program that just lost 30 games is a program that is about to change its roster.

Roster limits and scholarships after the House settlement

The single biggest change to Power 4 baseball in a generation took effect on July 1, 2025. Under the House settlement, the NCAA replaced scholarship limits with roster limits, and the Division I Board of Directors adopted the new numbers in June 2025.

Before July 2025 Since July 2025
Roster size 35 in season, more in fall 34, hard cap
Scholarships 11.7, split among at least 27 players Up to 34 full scholarships
Minimum aid per player 25 percent None required
Walk-ons Common, 8 or more per team Only inside the 34
Revenue sharing Not allowed Allowed, each school sets the baseball share

Read that table twice. The scholarship ceiling went from 11.7 to 34, but nothing forces a school to fund 34. Each athletic department decides how many baseball scholarships it pays for, and the SEC and the richest ACC and Big 12 programs are funding far more than the Big Ten’s older members. “Full ride” is now possible at a Power 4 baseball school for the first time, and it is still rare.

The roster cap is the part that changes recruiting. Thirty-four is a hard number. Fall rosters of 45 players, with a dozen walk-ons fighting for spring spots, are gone. A coach who offers you a spot is offering one of 34, which is why Power 4 staffs now sign fewer high school players and lean harder on the transfer portal for proven college hitters and arms.

Players who were on a roster in 2024-25, or who had been promised a spot for 2025-26, were protected as designated student-athletes and did not count against the cap. That protection runs out as those players graduate, which means the 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes are the first to feel the full 34.

Power 4 baseball rosters before and after the House settlement: 35 players and 11.7 scholarships before July 2025, a 34-man hard cap with up to 34 full scholarships after, walk-ons only inside the 34

The 2026 season in one table

Here is what the top of college baseball looked like in 2026, so you know what the schools above are competing for.

Event 2026 result Power 4 share
Division I programs 304 63, about one in five
Preseason No. 1 UCLA Big Ten
NCAA tournament field 64 teams 31 bids
College World Series champion Oklahoma, third title SEC
Runner-up North Carolina ACC
Most Outstanding Player Jaxon Willits, Oklahoma SEC
First pick, MLB draft Roch Cholowsky, UCLA, to the White Sox Big Ten

The pattern is stable from year to year. The SEC and ACC win most of the national titles, the tournament field is about half Power 4, and the first round of the draft mixes Power 4 juniors with high school seniors. The other half of the tournament, and the other half of the draft, come from the 241 Division I programs that are not on this page.

The real odds

Honest math. Sixty-three programs with 34 roster spots each is 2,142 players in the entire Power 4 tier. Roughly a third of those spots turn over each year, and the portal now fills a large share of the openings with players who already proved it at another college. The high school share of a Power 4 recruiting class is smaller than it was in 2020, and it is shrinking.

That is not a reason to quit. It is a reason to know your numbers. Compare yours to the Division I column of the exit velocity benchmarks by level and the pitching velocity benchmarks by level. If you are under the Division I line as a junior, the honest Power 4 path runs through a junior college or a mid-major, then the portal.

The other honest number is time. Power 4 staffs identify most of their high school targets by the summer after sophomore year, through showcases and travel ball, and the NCAA contact rules open the recruiting conversation on September 1 of junior year. A senior with no Power 4 contact in the fall is not going to get one by emailing in the spring. He is going to get one by playing well somewhere else first.

The real odds at Power 4 baseball: 63 programs, 34 spots each, about 2,100 players in the whole tier, roughly a third turning over each year, with the portal filling more of the openings than high school recruiting

How to get recruited by a Power 4 program, honestly

Recruiting at this level is early, indirect and competitive, and the method still has five steps.

  1. Know the line. Run your numbers against the Division I benchmarks above. If you clear them as a sophomore or junior, you are a Power 4 target. If not, pick the level you clear and build from there.
  2. Find the coach and the questionnaire. Every program above is in the coach directory with the recruiting questionnaire link where the school has one. Fill the questionnaire first, then email. Power 4 recruiting coordinators read questionnaires.
  3. Send a short email with a video link. The template and the timing are in how to email a college baseball coach. Lead with a measured number, a grad year and a schedule. Sixty seconds of game footage beats a highlight package.
  4. Get seen where they are. Power 4 staffs scout the big summer showcases and the top travel tournaments. One well-chosen event where the coach you emailed is on the fence beats five random ones.
  5. Ask the two money questions. How many of the 34 scholarships does the program fund, and what is the roster plan for your position in your freshman fall. A coach with a real spot answers both in one email.

Our Build My List tool sorts programs by the numbers that matter to you and includes every Power 4 school, so you are not copying names out of a table by hand.

Is Power 4 the only goal?

No, and 2026 said so out loud. Half the NCAA tournament came from outside the Power 4. The first round of the draft took four players from Georgia Tech, and it also took a pitcher from Indiana State and a pitcher from Oregon State. A scout does not care which conference logo is on the dugout.

The honest case for a non-Power 4 program is playing time. A freshman at a 34-man Power 4 roster full of portal transfers may not get 50 at-bats in two years. The same player at a strong mid-major or a top junior college plays every day, posts numbers, and enters the portal with a resume. That is how a large share of Power 4 rosters are built now, and it is a real plan, not a consolation.

Use the same tools at every level. The NWAC baseball guide and the NCCAA baseball guide cover two of the levels people skip past, and both send players up.

For a player with Division I numbers and a coach who knows his name, Power 4 is the top of the game. Sixty-three programs. About 2,100 roster spots. The best funded baseball in the amateur world, and the smallest door.

Honest read on Power 4 baseball: half the NCAA tournament and half the first round come from outside it, and a freshman on a 34-man portal-heavy roster may not play, so the mid-major and JuCo path to the portal is a real plan

Frequently asked questions

What are the Power 4 baseball conferences?

The ACC, Big 12, Big Ten and SEC. The term comes from football, where those four conferences hold the largest television contracts and the College Football Playoff’s automatic bids. In baseball it simply means the Division I programs at those schools.

How many Power 4 baseball schools are there?

Sixty-three in 2026: 16 in the ACC, 14 in the Big 12, 17 in the Big Ten and 16 in the SEC. Five football members do not play baseball: SMU, Syracuse, Colorado, Iowa State and Wisconsin.

What is the difference between Power 4 and Power 5?

Power 5 included the Pac-12. When its members left for the Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC ahead of the 2024-25 year, the term became Power 4. In baseball, the schools that moved, such as UCLA, USC, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Cal and Stanford, are now counted inside the four conferences.

How many scholarships do Power 4 baseball teams have?

Since July 1, 2025, up to 34, one for every roster spot, under the House settlement. Before that the limit was 11.7 scholarships spread across the roster. Each school decides how many of the 34 it funds, so the number varies by program.

Who won the 2026 College World Series?

Oklahoma, its third national title, over North Carolina. Both are Power 4 programs: Oklahoma in the SEC and North Carolina in the ACC. Jaxon Willits of Oklahoma was the Most Outstanding Player.
